Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--

CTOnews.com, January 12 (Xinhua) Bloomberg has released a major news release saying that Apple is developing its own screens for iPhone and Apple Watch, which has sparked extensive discussion in the technology media. But 9to5Mac, a foreign technology media, gave a more objective analysis, saying that Apple would not make its own screens.

After the release of the Bloomberg report, many media interpreted that Apple is going to enter manufacturing, reduce its dependence on Samsung for screens, or that Apple has stopped using screens provided by vendors such as Samsung and LG.

But 9to5Mac believes that some tech media have overinterpreted the Bloomberg report.

9to5Mac's first idea is the opposite of many in the media: Apple will not dabble in manufacturing to mass-produce screens. Apple does not make parts, nor does it plan to build its own factory and start hiring its own assembly line workers.

Secondly, Bloomberg did mention that Apple will use a "custom" screen, but this in itself is nothing new: Apple has already done so.

Apple does not directly use Samsung's existing screen, but requires Samsung to mass produce as required. The most typical example is CTOnews.com 's previously reported "news that Apple plans to start developing its own iPhone and Apple Watch screens in 2024 to get rid of Samsung's dependence." In order to achieve a higher goal of waterproof and dustproof, Apple requires Samsung to use inkjet printing in the smart island area of the iPhone 14 Pro model, which makes the process more difficult.

So 9to5Mac thinks Apple's more likely solution is to require screen vendors such as Samsung to customize it according to their own requirements. The supplier then sets up a special production line dedicated to the production of these screens.

So what does this Bloomberg report show that Apple has changed?

Foreign technology media 9to5Mac believes that Apple will then replace some key parts provided by the supply chain with home-made parts, which will enable the company to better control the design and function of its products. The tech giant has abandoned Intel chips in Mac computers to support internal designs and plans to do the same for key wireless components in its iPhone.

Apple plans to supply the screen in the same way. Apple will design new displays and design manufacturing processes, but it may rely on external suppliers to handle mass production.

Apple will be more and more involved in the design of displays. Instead of telling Samsung to "provide displays that have these functions and meet these specifications," Apple has designed the entire display from scratch. In essence, it approaches it in the same way as Apple A-series and M-series chips, where every aspect of the design is controlled by Apple.

By controlling its own supply of key components and increasing mass production requirements for suppliers such as Samsung, Apple can better control the entire supply ecology.
