CTOnews.com, January 11 (Xinhua)-- Tesla's electric car had an "eight-car collision" in the United States about two months ago, and now the video of the accident has been exposed.

Surveillance footage of the San Francisco Bay Bridge showed that the Tesla suddenly stopped without obvious external causes inside the tunnel, followed by a serial collision of eight cars. The accident, which occurred on November 24, disrupted road traffic for more than an hour and injured nine people, including a 2-year-old child.

At the time of the accident, Tesla driver told local police that the car turned on Tesla fully autonomous driving (FSD) at that time, but a spokesman for the US Highway Safety Administration and the California Department of Transportation did not confirm whether the FSD function was activated.

When FSD is turned on, vehicles can automatically change lanes, enter and exit highways, identify stop signs and traffic lights, and stop. The software is still in the Beta testing stage.

A spokesman for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said the agency had launched an investigation into the accident. As previously reported by CNBC, it had conducted at least 41 investigations into Tesla's accident as of December 22, involving automatic emergency braking and automatic functions such as Autopilot or FSD.

CTOnews.com learned that the phenomenon of Tesla's sudden braking, often referred to as "ghost brakes", has occurred on Tesla's Autopilot and FSD Beta. The so-called "ghost brake" means that after the user turns on Tesla's autopilot assistance system, the vehicle will brake suddenly without warning.
