CTOnews.com, January 11, Toyota released news on January 10 that new car sales in China in 2022 were 1.9406 million, down 0.2 percent from the previous year. This is the first year-on-year decline in the decade since 2012. Toyota fell 19.8% in December from a year earlier, the second consecutive month of decline.

For Guangzhou Auto Toyota, it produced a total of 1009265 vehicles in 2022, an increase of 22.6 percent over the same period last year, and sold a total of 1005000 vehicles, an increase of 21.4 percent over the same period last year. FAW Toyota's annual production exceeded 832201 vehicles in 2022. In terms of sales data, FAW Toyota has not yet released. Lexus sold 183900 vehicles in 2022, down nearly 19% from a year earlier.

Toyota said it was "seriously affected by a sharp drop in the number of people coming to stores as a result of the increase in the number of people infected by the epidemic in China."

Toyota has recently accelerated the transformation of new energy in the Chinese market. On December 20, 2022, the second phase of Guangzhou Auto Toyota New Energy vehicle capacity expansion project was officially put into production in Nansha District, Guangzhou City, indicating that Guangzhou Auto Toyota officially has a production capacity of one million units, and Guangzhou Auto Toyota will speed up the landing of omni-directional electrification strategy.

CTOnews.com learned that the other two major Japanese brands also performed poorly in the Chinese market in 2022, with Honda falling 12.1% to about 1.37 million vehicles, with sales falling for two consecutive years. Nissan fell 22.1% year-on-year to about 1.05 million vehicles, and sales fell for four consecutive years.
