At present, Samsung Galaxy S series flagship phones include standard version, Plus version and Ultra version, while it is reported that Samsung Galaxy S24 project is called DM within Samsung. DM currently has two sub-projects, DM1 and DM3, instead of DM2.

Judging from the previous naming convention of Samsung's Galaxy S series, DM1 is probably the standard version of Galaxy S24 Ultra DM3 is Galaxy S24 Ultra, that is, Galaxy S24 Plus (S24 +) has been cut.

The report also said that DM2 was probably planned for a long time, but then abandoned at some point. However, with the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S24 series still a year away, Samsung may add DM2 later, but time is running out.

If Samsung decides to cancel the Plus version from the Galaxy S24 series, it is likely to have something to do with the current state of the smartphone market. At present, the mobile phone market is mature, most consumers either buy the high-end model of the Ultra or buy a cheaper standard version, but the Plus version sandwiched in the middle is a bit awkward.

In addition, the global smartphone market has been declining in recent years, consumer demand for replacement is also decreasing, reducing the product line is also the trend of the times. CTOnews.com learned that 1.47 billion smartphones were sold worldwide in 2018, according to analyst firm GfK. It fell to 1.376 billion in 2019, 1.268 billion in 2020, 1.29 billion in 2021 and 1.243 billion in 2022. GfK expects to ship about 1.278 billion units in 2023.

At the same time, Samsung is also considering reducing the number of models in the A-Series, the mid-end brand. Galaxy A1, A3 and A5 may continue to launch new models, but A2 may be cancelled.
