Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--

CTOnews.com, January 11 (Xinhua)-- BMW recently announced a voluntary recall (2022-2023 models) of 14086 electric vehicles in the iX, i4 and i7 series in the United States because of safety risks in its battery control system. BMW said the faulty battery control system could accidentally cut off power, increasing the risk of car accidents.

"specifically, there may be occasional misdiagnoses in battery management electronics, which may cause the electronic control unit to reset," BMW wrote in the recall. "if a reset occurs, this may lead to a power outage."

CTOnews.com reviewed the recall book [PDF] and found that the specific models affected in the iX, i4 and i7 series included the 2022-2023 iX xDrive40, iX xDrive50, iX M60, i4 eDrive35, i4 eDrive40, i4 M50 and i7 xDrive60 in 2023.

BMW said it had not found any traffic accidents caused by a failure of the battery control system, but BMW officials hoped to reduce this potential risk by calling it back. BMW discovered the problem after reviewing its internal system after receiving about 10 reports from dealers and customers since June 2022.

BMW will notify the owners of the affected vehicles by February 10, 2023. It notified the distributor on December 20, 2022 and explained how to fix the problem. Customers can drive to the store free of charge, and the dealer will reprogram the battery according to the specific instructions provided by BMW.
