CTOnews.com January 10 news, financial data show that wafer foundry UMC's revenue in December 2022 was 20.946 billion New Taiwan dollars (about 4.671 billion yuan), down 7.1% from the previous month and 3.3% from the same period last year, falling to a nearly 10-month low and declining for four consecutive months.

CTOnews.com learned that in the fourth quarter of 2022, UMC's revenue was 67.836 billion New Taiwan dollars (about 15.127 billion yuan), down 10 percent from a month earlier and up 14.8 percent from a year earlier, a three-quarter low. In 2022, UMC's revenue was 278.705 billion New Taiwan dollars (about 62.151 billion yuan), an increase of 30.8 percent over the same period last year.

Analysts said that due to the impact of inflation and the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, UMC faced weak demand and could not avoid being affected by inventory adjustment in the semiconductor industry, but it would work closely with customers to cope with the current market conditions.

In addition, UMC said that demand for smartphones, personal computers and consumer electronics has not yet recovered, but demand in automotive and industrial areas is still good.
