Next generation CarPlay

Apple announced the next generation of CarPlay on last year's WWDC. The new version will support multiple displays, gadgets and integrate with vehicle functions such as dashboards, climate control and FM broadcasting.

Apple said that the first vehicles to support the next-generation CarPlay experience will be released by the end of 2023, and that connected iPhone may require iOS 17 or later. Apple said committed automakers include Acura, Audi, Ford, Honda, Jaguar, Land Rover, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan, Porsche and Volvo.

In the latest issue of the Power On newsletter, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman said reports about the device scheduled to be released in January were accurate-but that time has now been delayed.

He said Apple plans to release its first AR / VR headdisplay in the spring, before the June WWDC, which may be named "Reality Pro". The device will go on sale later in the fall of 2023, in line with Guo Mingyi's forecast.

Gurman said the prototype had been distributed to a small number of developers for testing, but said the device was far from complete and that Apple still needed to solve several "problems" in hardware and software.
