Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
Thanks to CTOnews.com netizen Sentinel for the clue delivery! CTOnews.com, January 11, 2023, Microsoft released monthly security updates (also known as "version B") for 20H2, 21H2, and 22H2, the latest versions of Windows Server 20H2 and Windows 10. New updates are distributed under KB5022282, upgrading versions to Build 19042.2486, 19044.2486, and 19045.2486.
As usual, the main highlight of this release is the security update of Windows 10.
This update addresses the security issues of the Windows operating system.
Microsoft reminds you that all Windows 10 versions of 21H1 have been terminated on December 13, 2022. After December 13, 2022, these devices will not receive monthly safety and quality updates. These updates include protection against the latest security threats. To continue to receive safety and quality updates, it is recommended that you update to the latest version of Windows.
Windows 10 service stack updates-19042.2300, 19044.2300 and 19045.2300
This update improves the quality of the service stack, which is the component that installs the Windows update. CTOnews.com learned that service stack updates (SSU) ensure a strong and reliable service stack so that devices can receive and install Microsoft updates.
Microsoft also listed known issues in the update. Here are the symptoms and their respective solutions:
Devices with Windows installations created from custom offline media or custom ISO images may have removed the old version of Microsoft Edge through this update, but will not automatically replace it with the new Microsoft Edge. This problem occurs only if you create a custom offline media or ISO image by integrating this update into the mirror without first installing the standalone Service Stack Update (SSU) released on or after March 29, 2021.
Note that devices that connect directly to Windows updates to receive updates are not affected. This includes devices that are updated with Windows for the enterprise. Any device connected to Windows updates should always receive the latest version of SSU and the latest cumulative update (LCU) without any additional steps.
Solution:
To avoid this problem, be sure to integrate SSU released on or after March 29, 2021 into a custom offline media or ISO image before integrating LCU. To do this using the combined SSU and LCU packages now used for Windows 10 version 20H2 and Windows 10 version 2004, the user needs to extract SSU from the combined package. Use the following steps to extract the SSU:
Use this command line to extract cab from msu (take KB5000842's package as an example):
Expand Windows10.0-KB5000842-x64.msu / f:Windows10.0-KB5000842-x64.cab uses this command line to extract SSU from the previously extracted cab:
Expand Windows10.0-KB5000842-x64.cab / SSU-19041.903-x64.cab * then the user will own the SSU cab, which in this example is called FRV. First import this file into an offline mirror, then LCU.
If users have encountered this problem by installing the operating system using the affected custom media, they can alleviate it by installing a new Microsoft Edge directly. If you need to deploy a new Microsoft Edge for business widely, see downloading and deploying Microsoft Edge for business.
