CTOnews.com, January 10 (Xinhua)-- Mercedes-Benz said Tuesday that sales of electric vehicles in its Mercedes-Benz passenger car business more than doubled last year, and the company plans to launch its own global network of electric vehicle charging posts, the Wall Street Journal reported on January 10.

Mercedes-Benz's passenger car business delivered 2.0439 million cars to customers last year, 1 per cent less than in 2021, as the industry was affected by COVID-19 epidemic restrictions, semiconductor supply shortages and logistics bottlenecks.

However, electric vehicle sales surged to 117800 last year from 52500 in 2021. Electric vehicle sales more than doubled to 42400 in the fourth quarter.

In the Chinese market, Mercedes-Benz delivered a total of 751714 models throughout the year. The lineup of new energy vehicles (including pure electric models and plug-in hybrid models) increased by 143% year-on-year; Mercedes-Maybach brand delivery achieved double-digit growth for two consecutive years.

CTOnews.com learned that Mercedes-Benz will launch six new pure electric models and plug-in hybrid models to the Chinese market in 2023, including Mercedes-EQ's first seven-seat deluxe pure electric SUV-- new EQS pure electric SUV, and the first medium-and large-scale SUV-- new EQE pure electric SUV based on EVA pure electric platform. Plug-in hybrid products will also be extended to luxury flagship models including Mercedes-Benz S-Class and Mercedes-Maybach S-Class sedans.

In addition, the first mass-produced pure electric Maybach model, the new Mercedes-Maybach EQS pure electric SUV, will be unveiled worldwide in the first half of 2023.
