In a surprise virtualization project, from the full deployment of servers to desktop applications, coupled with the renovation costs of server hardware and network equipment, the investment of a virtualization project is often more than one million. in fact, many experts have analyzed the current return on investment ratio and comprehensive value of virtualization projects, and I don't want to repeat them here. From a technical point of view, virtualization is indeed a good technology to solve the problem of operation and maintenance in information work, and now many domestic R & D enterprises are also carrying out related product development, and domestic virtualization technology is also emerging.

However, it seems that in many local markets, domestic virtualization products are not willing to be accepted by enterprises, and they prefer to purchase foreign products with higher costs. Even the horizontal evaluation of similar products on both sides, on-site demonstration of data to prove the advantages of the situation, it is difficult to impress customers, which is one of the reasons hindered the domestic virtualization stride into the application field?

The author has also communicated with a number of network center managers of large enterprises, and got some answers from their feedback, summarized as follows:

1. I also believe in the R & D strength of international manufacturers. Although the principle of virtualization software is simple, in order to become a mature product, it requires long-term accumulation by the R & D team, and developers of virtualization products need to be able to have real in-depth code-sharing cooperation with international top system manufacturers such as Microsoft, IBM and Intel. This is by no means a few domestic programmers in a year or two can be locked up in the development department to read MSDN, and the system factory SDK to write a pile of code.

At present, the shortest companies in the world that can do virtualization product development have a history of more than ten years, and they have been electronic equipment suppliers of the US military for a long time during World War II. Enterprises are worried that once the products are launched, developers will not be able to undertake follow-up research and development and support, and enterprises will face all kinds of difficulties.

3. The person in charge of the information center, including the boss of the enterprise, dare not bear the risk of business interruption. The most important thing for a virtualized project is stability. Once a problem occurs, it is definitely not as simple as one or two PC, which is very likely to lead to the paralysis of the entire business system. This risk may not be completely avoided, but if they purchase products from international first-tier manufacturers, it is convenient to pass the buck in the event of a "disaster". They can answer safely in the face of questioning: "this question is the problem of the product itself, and even the Fortune 500 use their products." and if this question is a domestic product. The media will certainly dig deep into whether there is some interest relationship between the enterprise procurement person in charge and the supplier, and whether there is a procurement black curtain. This is a kind of habitual thinking, and Chinese people also like to watch this.

4. Brand effect + face-saving project, many virtual projects on state-owned enterprises are more for the achievements of information construction. In the future, when media reports and materials are reported, the project is marked to use the latest technology in the world. The products of American companies, the names of these companies are often only heard of by computer minesweepers and landlords, but once they are reported to be the names of an unknown company in the country, they feel they can't save face.

5. To sum up, the above four points are a common fault of our countrymen: "foreign monks can practice scriptures."

There may be more reasons I haven't collected, but from the perspective of the practical application of the project, no matter where a product comes from, the most important thing is its applicability. The application here lies not only in whether the product can play the greatest effect in different software and hardware environments, but also in whether it meets the user's habits and whether it meets the user's final needs. If it does not have applicability, and a more expensive product does not have use value, it will only become a handicraft.

The author participated in the research and development of a domestic virtualization project two years ago, and I have a deep feeling about this. In fact, until now, I have always believed that the design concept of the product has a great relationship with the cultural roots of different nationalities. For example, German companies do not have to print their work every morning. It is impossible to install behavior management software on the computers of American enterprises. Desktop virtualization is very popular in Japanese enterprises, while everything from games to music and movies exists in the computers of Chinese enterprises. This habit difference is formed by the different cultural roots of different countries. Therefore, in the domestic software design, I must take into account the use habits of domestic users, enterprise management system, in line with the national conditions of the software and hardware environment, all of these are indispensable.

Taking the most competitive "desktop virtualization" in China as an example, we can analyze the applicability of the product.

At present, the network of most domestic enterprises is mainly 100 megabytes, although the client hardware configuration is not unified, but the configuration is relatively high, so the PC computers of many enterprises are used as workstations, that is, a lot of industrial drawing, graphics processing, calculation and design work is done directly on the client, and there is no professional minicomputer and workstation to use. It has become a habit to store documents on the desktop and arrange individual icons. So in the case of unified push, how to ensure personalization? Do you want to customize a thousand domain user accounts and scripts for a thousand users?

4. It may be fashionable for tablets and mobile phones to connect to the desktop to work, but it will not become mainstream in the Chinese market for at least the next five years, because the outsourcing process of our enterprises is far from so mature. A lot of work needs to be done step by step by our employees, not just by connecting tablets and phones to remote desktops. What is the actual value of cross-platform desktop roaming?

5. The people of domestic employees themselves are also very individual. when everything is restricted, will their emotions affect the efficiency of their work? How to ensure that users of virtual desktops are disconnected when the network or server is subjected to any little shock accidentally or artificially? Business continuity without interruption?

In fact, all these questions deserve our information center director to think more about international brands. Let's not talk about the system security of China and the United States in the event of a "war" in the future. Can an international company that is far away really serve you on call at any time? The compatibility of system software is very important, making virtual desktops is mapped from port to keyboard and mouse operation in principle, and it has to be tested in terms of compatibility between peripherals and application software. when you encounter a problem that needs to be corrected by the developer of the virtual desktop for you, can the international company on the other side of the ocean respond for you as soon as possible?

Although domestic virtualization still has a long way to go, we should have more confidence in domestic products and believe in the R & D strength and service ability of the Chinese people. In fact, after several years of development, we can feel that China's local virtualization technology is emerging, and has grown up a number of domestic virtualization R & D enterprises and institutions with independent intellectual property rights. Their products have also been tested in the vast number of universities, government enterprises, and military industry, and their stability and reliability are not as bad as some people subjectively want to be, but are closer to the habits of Chinese users.
