Beijing, January 10 (Xinhua)-- Ann Carlson, acting director of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), told reporters on Monday that the regulator was "very fast" in promoting the investigation of Tesla's autopilot system (Autopilot). The survey was launched in August 2021.

"We are putting in a lot of resources," Tesla Carlson told reporters on the sidelines of an event in Washington, but declined to commit to a specific time frame for the end of the investigation. "these resources require a lot of technical expertise and are actually some legal novelty, so we are acting as soon as possible, but we also want to be careful to make sure we have all the information we need." She said.

In June last year, NHTSA upgraded its defect investigation of 830000 Tesla cars equipped with Autopilot to engineering analysis, which were involved in collisions with parked emergency vehicles. This investigation is a necessary step before the NHTSA requests a recall of the car.

Meanwhile, NHTSA said on Monday that it was discussing with Tesla a tweet about the car owner monitoring function released by Tesla CEO Elon Musk (Elon Musk). On December 31, a tweet suggested that drivers who drive more than 10,000 miles using Tesla's "fully automated driving" (FSD) system should be able to disable the "steering wheel reminder" function. This function will sound an alarm and instruct the driver to hold the steering wheel to make sure they are paying attention. Musk responded: "agreed, the update will be released in January."

As of Monday's close, Tesla shares stopped their decline, rising 5.93% to close at $119.77, with a market capitalization of $378.2 billion.
