CTOnews.com, January 9 (Xinhua)-- Samsung Electronics has been focusing on the consumer robot market for some time. During the 2023 International Consumer Electronics Show, the company said it sees robots as a "new growth engine."

"We plan to launch a human assistant robot called EX1 within this year," Han Zhongxi, vice chairman and CEO of Samsung Electronics, said at a news conference in Las Vegas.

The company already has a device called the EX1, a digital camera that has been around for a decade. Obviously, this year's new EX1 will be a completely different product, the "human assistant robot", but Samsung did not say exactly what it can do.

CTOnews.com learned that Samsung released the Bot Handy and the JetBot 90 AI + robot on CES in 2021, the JetBot 90 AI + is an artificial intelligence-driven vacuum cleaner that is already on the market, while the Bot Handy is a conceptual robot that is not on the market. This is a home robot that can wash dishes, wash clothes, pour wine for its host, and so on. It may give us a general preview of an EX1 human assistant robot.

It's not clear whether EX1 has anything to do with Bot Handy, but the focus is on Samsung's idea of building a human assistant robot for some time.

Samsung Electronics now sees robots as a potential new source of revenue. Last year, last week, Samsung invested 59 billion won (319 million yuan) in Rainbow Robot.
