According to data company Motor Intelligence, Tesla Model Y entered the 2022 list of the top 10 best-selling cars in the United States.

In 2022, Model Y sold 252000 vehicles in the United States, an increase of 32.4% over 2021 and ranked sixth in the US auto market. Model Y was followed by GMC Sierra (No. 7), Honda CR-V (No. 8), Toyota Tacoma (No. 9) and Gyibug Grand Cherokee (No. 10).

It is reported that Tesla launched the Model Y in March 2019, and the car will be delivered in the North American market from the first quarter of 2020.

At the annual shareholder meeting in October 2021, Tesla CEO Elon Musk said that the Model Y should be the best-selling car, a milestone expected to be achieved in 2023, thanks to its four factories: the Fremont factory, the Shanghai super factory, the Texas super factory and the Berlin super factory.

In early August 2022, Musk said that the Model Y is expected to be the best-selling model in 2022 and will remain the best-selling model in 2023.

Despite the challenges for Tesla in 2022, the company also had strong sales in the UK last year, with its Model 3 and Model Y becoming the best-selling cars several times in different months.

In December 2022, Model Y sold 10664 vehicles in the UK, making it the best-selling car in the UK, while the Model 3 became the second best-selling car in the country, according to the Association of Automobile Manufacturers and traders (SMMT).

For all of 2022, Model Y sold 35551 vehicles in the UK, making it the third best-selling car in the country, behind only Nissan's Qashqai (42704) and Vauxhall Corsa (35910).
