Benioff said the problem of inefficiency mainly came from new account managers, according to one attendee.

During the pandemic and in the years before it, Salesforce expanded rapidly as cloud computing applications soared in popularity. Part of the company's growth has been driven by big acquisitions such as Slack and Tableau.

Now Salesforce is cutting jobs because of slowing revenue growth and aggressive investors worried about operating leverage. In November, Bret Taylor, who is seen as the successor to Benioff, abruptly announced his departure after a year as co-chief executive. He will formally leave at the end of January.

Last month, Benioff sent a Slack message to all employees asking for ways to make new employees more productive. At a meeting last Thursday, Benioff expressed dissatisfaction with the reports of his remarks. Benioff said at the meeting: "Trust is one of our core values," according to one of the participants. " It took Benioff a long time to answer questions about the future of Salesforce, the person said.
