CTOnews.com, January 8, Intel has been developing a hardware acceleration execution Manager (HAXM) for the past few years. However, Intel has decided to stop developing HAXM, pointing out that there are security problems in the current code and advising users not to continue to use it.

CTOnews.com lesson: HAXM is a cross-platform hardware-assisted virtualization engine (hypervisor) that is widely used as an accelerator for Android Emulator and QEMU. It has always been supported on Windows and macOS, and has also been ported to other host operating systems such as Linux and NetBSD.

HAXM runs as the kernel mode driver of the host operating system and provides a KVM-like interface for user space, so that applications such as QEMU can take advantage of the built-in hardware virtualization function of modern Intel CPU, that is, Intel virtualization technology.

HAXM was last updated in late November, and the latest version is HAXM 7.8. HAXM is very useful in developing Android applications around Intel on the Windows platform.

Intel engineers issued the following notice this week:

The project is terminated.

This project will no longer be maintained by Intel.

The project has been identified as having a known security breach.

Intel has stopped developing and contributing to the project, including, but not limited to, maintenance, bug fixes, new versions or updates.

Intel no longer accepts patches for this project.
