CTOnews.com, January 8, Luke Eastman (Luke Iseman) is a veteran inventor and former hardware director of incubator Y Combinator. He recently announced that he has successfully raised at least $500000 to promote the solar reflection project of his startup Make Sunsets.

CTOnews.com learned that Make Sunsets plans to launch three balloons from Iseman-owned land in Baja, Mexico, in January to release sulfur dioxide to cool the atmosphere.

"We create reflective, high-altitude, biodegradable clouds to cool the planet. By mimicking natural processes, our 'shiny clouds' will prevent catastrophic global warming," read the company's page.

Geoengineering, also known as "man-made climate intervention", refers to artificially manipulating the climate by reflecting more sunlight back into space, just like simulating the natural process that occurs after a large volcano erupts. In theory, spraying sufficient amounts of sulfur and similar particles could ease global warming.
