CTOnews.com January 7, the GNOME team has confirmed that GNOME 44 will be released on March 22 this year. GNOME is the desktop environment of a major GNU / Linux distribution and another major update to the GNOME 40 series.

The GNOME team has announced a release schedule for GNOME 44:

GNOME 44 Alpha-January 7, 2023

GNOME 44 Beta-February 11, 2023

GNOME 44 RC-March 4, 2023

GNOME 44 stable Edition-March 22, 2023

CTOnews.com learned that according to the release schedule, GNOME 44 Alpha will be released today, while a stable version will be released in late March. GNOME 44 introduces many improvements, and the screenshot shows that the Epiphany (GNOME Web) web browser has finally been ported to GTK 4.

The old-fashioned Gedit text editor is clearly coming back, mainly because it has been actively maintained recently. In fact, Gedit 44.1 is already available for download on Flathub, its status bar has been improved, and it can expand or collapse projects by pressing the left and right keys in the file browser plug-in.
