Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--

CTOnews.com, January 7, Microsoft has announced that it will no longer provide security updates and technical support for Microsoft Edge browsers on the Win7 / Win 8.1 platform starting from January 10. However, after Microsoft officially gave up, 0patch said it would continue to provide an additional 2 years of support.

ACROS Security has announced that after Microsoft no longer supports Edge browsers on these platforms, it will ensure that Microsoft Edge browsers will continue to be protected until January 2025.

Microsoft has stopped supporting Microsoft Edge browsers for Windows 7 SP1, Windows Server 2008 / R2 and Windows Server 2012 / R2 since January 2023. As a result, Microsoft Edge 109, which will be deployed next week, will be the last version of Edge to run on all these Windows systems, but will no longer receive security patches. It is particularly unpleasant for Windows Server 2012 R2 users as the platform will continue to receive security updates until October 2023.

CTOnews.com learned that Kolsek made these details public in this blog post. The developers of 0patch have decided to provide key security patches for Edge version 109 so that it can safely continue to be used on Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows Server 2012 / R2.

The premise is that the Edge browser on the system has been updated to version 109 and the 0patch agent is running on the system. Whenever key vulnerabilities are found in Edge, 0patch will develop micro-patches to close them and deploy them through proxies. Edge security patches are part of professional and enterprise licenses. As a result, those who have already used 0patch on their systems will automatically receive Edge micro-patches at no extra cost for these licenses.
