CTOnews.com, January 6 (Xinhua)-- Internet fitness platform Peloton has agreed to pay a civil fine of $19.1 million (about 131 million yuan) to settle charges against its Tread + treadmill by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the Wall Street Journal reported.

Peloton had previously been accused of failing to immediately report that the treadmill contained defects that could cause serious injuries to consumers.

On Thursday, local time, CPSC said the civil fine also resolved allegations that Peloton distributed the recalled treadmill in violation of the Consumer goods Safety Act.

As part of the settlement, Peloton promised to submit an annual report on its compliance plan and internal control system over the next five years.

CTOnews.com learned that Peloton had made several rounds of layoffs last year. In October 2022, Peloton announced plans to cut about 500 jobs, or about 12% of its workforce at the time.
