In 2022, countries or organizations that have conducted at least one space launch mission include the United States, China, Russia, the European Union, Japan, India, Iran and South Korea.

Among them, the United States carried out a total of 87 launch missions in 2022, accounting for 46.8% of the total global launch volume, with a launch success rate of 96.6%, ranking first in the world. 84 of these 87 launches were successful, sending a total of 793 tons of payload into space, accounting for about 77% of the total weight of the orbital payload.

Of the 87 U.S. launches, 61 were contributed by SpaceX, which accounts for about 70% of the total annual U.S. launches and has a launch success rate of 100%. SpaceX launched a total of 695 tons of payloads into space in 2022, accounting for about 87.6% of the total annual weight of the United States. SpaceX launched more than 2000 satellites in 2022, most of which were "star chain" satellites.

In 2022, China carried out 64 launch missions, accounting for 34.4% of the world's total, ranking second in the world. 62 successful launches, 96.9% success rate. Two of the failed launch missions came from private space, namely Star Glory's "Hyperbola I" and Blue Arrow Aerospace's "Rosefinch II" rocket. China will launch a total of 225 tons of payload into space in 2022, accounting for about 21% of the total weight of the world's orbital payload.

Russia carried out a total of 22 launch missions in 2022, ranking third in the world, accounting for 11.8% of the world's total annual launches and about 21% of the world's total payload. Russia's total number of launches in 2022 is less than that of the United States and China, but the launch success rate is 100%.

As for the European Union, India, Iran, South Korea and Japan, their number of launches in 2022 is 5, 5, 1, 1 and 1 respectively. These countries have launched a total of 13 launches, accounting for only 7 per cent of the total global launches in 2022. The European Union and India each failed once, and Japan's only launch mission in 2022 ended in failure.

In the last century, there were only two super space players in the world, the United States and the Soviet Union. The Cold War between the United States and the Soviet Union in the space field created many miracles in the world and greatly promoted the development of space technology.

After the end of the Cold War, Russia inherited the mantle of the Soviet Union, China caught up, China, the United States and Russia became the world's recognized three space powers at the beginning of the 21st century, and their space level far exceeded that of other countries.

However, according to the global space launch data in recent years, the world's space flight has gradually presented a pattern of "two superpowers and one strong." As for the space flight level of other countries, it is not enough at present.

The two countries with the strongest space capabilities are the United States and China. In recent years, the United States has propped up its facade by private spaceflight led by SpaceX, and the overall level of aerospace technology is still far ahead of other countries. China built its own space station in 2022, which became an important milestone in China's space development in 2022. If the world's major space players are divided according to their space level, although Russia's space strength can still be tied with the United States and China in the first echelon in the world, far exceeding the space players behind, Russia's economic aggregate is far less than that of China and the United States, which has led to Russia not making large-scale investment in the space field in recent years and mainly relying on the old capital of the Soviet Union to survive. China and the United States can become the two super players in the space field at present, not only because they are technologically ahead of other countries, but also because their economic aggregates are far ahead in the world and they can invest much more in the space field than other countries.

The number of global space launches in 2023 is expected to reach a new high, and the United States will still rank first, because SpaceX is expected to complete 100 launches in 2023 to build the next generation of star chain systems. According to this development, it is expected that the difference in the number of space launches between China and the United States will continue to widen in 2023.
