Hello, everyone. I'm glad to share some small features about System Center 2016-Operations Manager with you today. I talked about SCOM 2016's monitoring alarms through Agent distributed on the client side.

Today I'm going to learn about SCOM 2016's monitoring and configuration of IIS web services with you.

In fact, for the monitoring needs of IIS, I believe you still have a lot of rigid needs, because there will be more or less IIS Web Service services within the enterprise, such as Exchange / SharePoint / CRM and so on.

Perhaps in some of the previous operation and daily management centers, you often found that some servers were "rammed", the server was running normally, and IP was also connected to ping, but the web service was down. At this time, it would be nice if SCOM could detect it with the help of other methods.

In the previous article, I mentioned something called "administrative template". When we downloaded and deployed administrative templates, we could see that Microsoft actually created many kinds of templates for us to choose from, so will there be administrative templates for IIS?

Next let's take a look at how to monitor these IIS services through SCOM2016.

First, we select "manage templates" in the "manage" function bar, and then right-click to select "download Administrative templates"

Click "add"

After entering "IIS" as the keyword search, we can see that the system has searched out a lot of IIS templates for us, and all of them have the operational version of the server, which is easy for everyone to identify.

Because all my IIS web services use Windows Server 2012 R2, I choose IIS 2012 here.

Direct download succeeded.

Then import the template

Select the two template files you just downloaded and click install.

The template import of IIS is successful. We go back to the authoring function bar, select the management package template, and right-click to select "create Monitoring Wizard".

Select web Application availability Monitoring, and click next

Name the created WEB monitor and select the following figure in the Select Target Management Pack.

Enter the URL address of the web service you want to monitor, and click next

Next, select a monitoring server. Please note that this is not a "monitored server". It is to select multiple servers to monitor the URL address, which is equivalent to selecting several more people to monitor this URL from different angles. You can understand it as "multiple onlookers".

You can see that we have selected two "bystander Monitoring" client servers and click to run the test.

My test results are as follows, the test should have passed, but literally, it seems that the error condition assessment has failed. I will study the specific problems separately and update them.

When I created Mail Service, this test was normal.

Similarly, you can customize some alarm standards.

Use the same method to create similar web application availability monitoring

The monitoring content can be seen in the monitored activity alert, and the email notification is also recycled to the email alarm.
