CTOnews.com January 6 news, Microsoft today released the latest Windows 11 preview version of Build 25272 update for the Windows preview experience Dev channel. This is Microsoft's first Dev version in 2023, which includes a good set of Insiders improvements and fixes.

Remove the Quick Assistant from the Windows tool to display it directly in the all applications list on the start menu and make it easier to find.

Microsoft is removing the recommended action to search for copied text in Microsoft Edge and displaying recommended sites in the "recommendations" section of "start"-both features have been available since Build 25247. As a reminder, Microsoft's attempts at features and experiences on Dev may be removed and never released outside of Dev, as Microsoft is incubating new ideas and getting feedback from Insider.

[WSL]

Starting with Build 25267, the built-in version of Windows Subsystem for Linux has been removed. If you are a WSL user, when you install a version with this change, you will need to update to the latest WSL version outlined in this GitHub post to ensure that WSL continues to run on PC. When complete, WSL will continue to process subsequent version updates. In future versions, it is hoped that this will be done automatically.

A refresh button has been added to the Windows print queue.

Repair [generic]

Fixed a black screen on some Arm64 devices when recovering from sleep or hibernation.

Fixed an issue that caused various UI elements in the application to sometimes disappear and reappear in recent versions.

These fixes apply only to Windows Preview experience members, who get a different way to handle the search appearance on the taskbar and start rolling out to Build 25252 Preview experience members:

Fixed an issue that caused the search box on the taskbar to not render and display visual artifacts correctly.

Japanese IME candidates will now display correctly in the search box on the taskbar.

Fixed an issue that caused incorrect matches to be filtered by publisher name on the process page.

Fixed an issue that caused some services not to appear on the Services page after filtering was applied.

Fixed an issue where starting a new process while setting the filter would cause the new process to appear in the filter list.

Fixed an issue where Task Manager did not display light and dark content correctly, rendering text that might not be readable.

Fixed an issue that caused the launch application page in Task Manager to not list any applications for some internal testers.

If there are no matching search results, the task manager will now clearly indicate.

Fixed possible task manager crash when trying to end some processes.

Users can now set the focus to the search box by pressing CTRL + F.

Fixed an issue that caused settings to crash when the narrator was turned on or off in Litaowan and Hungarian versions.

The narrator can now work with Windows Defender Application Guard for Edge.

[real-time subtitles]

Fixed an issue that prevented real-time subtitles from working in the latest Insider Preview version of the Dev channel.

When using Japanese IME with the narrator, the narrator will no longer read the entire combined string each time the user presses the key.

If only one input language is installed, the message displayed the first time you use ALT + Shift will no longer be displayed.

Fixed an issue where Surface Pen could not promote PowerPoint slides in the latest version.

Changes have been made to help improve the performance of the mouse when playing games.

Fixed an issue where it might get stuck if you opened the start menu with a touch gesture.

Fixed an issue that could cause Excel to stop responding to some mouse drag events when using Japanese or Chinese IME.

Fixed an issue that might cause a hang if authentication authentication was canceled when connecting to a virtual private network.

Fixed an issue that sometimes caused the settings to crash when the power and battery were turned on.

Fixed an issue that sometimes caused quick settings to crash when navigating to the Bluetooth section.

Fixed an issue where the application icon under Settings > Application > default Application might be blurred.

This release includes fixes that affect Windows Hello issues on some PC. Microsoft is continuing to investigate and solve Arm64 PC-specific problems

Fixed an issue that could cause problems with the camera application display if you press pause while recording the video.

CTOnews.com has learned that some of the fixes mentioned in the Insider Preview version of the Dev channel may enter service updates for the released version of Windows 11.

Known problem [generic]

Logging in via facial recognition using Windows Hello may not work on Arm64 PC. The solution is to use the Hello PIN path.

[taskbar and system tray]

When using a taskbar optimized for tablets, the taskbar is sometimes cut in half. The user may also see this problem on the secondary monitor.

The following known issues apply only to Windows Preview experience members, who get a different approach, that is, the search appearance on the taskbar, starting to be rolled out to Preview experience members using Build 25252:

In languages that display from right to left, such as Arabic, there is a layout problem with the text in the taskbar search box.

When applied from the task manager settings page, some dialogs may not be rendered with the correct theme.

When you apply theme changes to the task manager settings page, the data content area of the process page may flash once.

Microsoft is investigating the problem that the widget panel will be stuck invisibly in the Insiders in China (and possibly elsewhere), causing the click on the left side of the screen to not work. If you encounter this situation, pressing WIN + D may solve the problem.

In a right-to-left display language, such as Arabic, when you click to expand the widget panel view, the content is animated before the widget panel is resized.
