January 5 news, according to foreign media reports, GM is considering the production of electric vehicles at the Ramos Arizpe plant in northern Mexico.

Mexico's Ministry of economy said on Twitter on Tuesday that after meeting with GM, the company discussed plans to produce only electric cars at its Ramos Arizpe plant.

The Ramos Arizpe plant currently produces the Chevrolet Equinox and the Chevrolet Blazer ICE, both of which will be available as electric models in the next few years.

GM's reported car sales show that it has become the largest US carmaker in 2022, but its electric vehicle sales lag behind traditional and emerging competitors such as Tesla, Hyundai / Kia and Ford. To this end, the company plans to launch more electric models and speed up the production of electric vehicles to accelerate the transition to electric vehicles.

According to foreign media reports, GM plans to launch more than 30 electric vehicles around the world from 2022 to 2025. In November 2022, foreign media reported that the company planned to launch more than 15 pure electric models based on the Ultium platform in China by 2025 to catch up with the world's largest electric vehicle market leader.

The company had previously said it would produce 400000 electric vehicles for the North American market from 2022 to the first half of 2024, a slower schedule than previously predicted. In addition, the company plans to accelerate production of electric vehicles in North America and China from 2023 to 2025.
