With the release of the 13th generation of Koura's full-line products, the matching B760M is also on the market. From the author's point of view, this year's low-end B760M motherboard may be a little embarrassing, because the 13th generation Kouri did not change the interface, B660M motherboard can still be used. But gigabyte chose a new way of playing: using flagship power and heat dissipation to make a high-end B760M motherboard with i9-13900 to compete with a large number of entry-level Z790M motherboards.

And gigabyte out of the product, is gigabyte B760M AORUS PRO AX. In this article, let's put some pressure on it to see if the strongest i9-13900K can move, and if that's all right, then it's fine for most players who choose i5 i7. The following is the test configuration:

Hardware design gigabyte B760M AORUS PRO AX motherboard is a standard size M-ATX motherboard. As a carved series motherboard and the high-end motherboard of the small carved series, the heat dissipation armor is naturally very solid, with solid heat dissipation armor at the core power supply, the main hard disk and the south bridge.

What surprises the author most is that the core power supply has not only the full coverage of the compound trench design, but also an exposed 6mm heat pipe. This is a configuration that many Z790 high-end motherboards do not have, and it also provides the strength for gigabyte B760M AORUS PRO AX with i9.

As the CPU interface part of the core interface, the B760M AORUS PRO AX uses intel's latest LGA1700 interface, which means that the B760M motherboard supports all 12th and 13th generation Kerry processors. Of course, the optical interface support is not enough, and the power supply part has to be powered to move i7 and i9 processors.

In terms of core power supply, the B760M AORUS PRO AX uses 14-phase power supply, 1-phase nuclear display power supply and 1-phase auxiliary power supply for 14-phase CPU, 1-phase nuclear display and 1-phase auxiliary power supply, which far exceeds the conventional 14-phase 1-phase power supply of B-series motherboards. This power supply even exceeds some low-end Z790 motherboards. In theory, Core i9 processors can give full play to their full strength.

The motherboard body adopts a 2-ounce copper PCB enhanced design, which improves the strength of the motherboard body and can quickly derive the waste heat caused by the motherboard work, thus ensuring the additional power demand of the motherboard for CPU overclocking.

The gigabyte B760M AORUS PRO AX motherboard provides 4 memory slots and is the latest DDR5 memory slot. A major feature of the 700 series chipset is the upgrade of the memory controller to support higher DDR5 memory frequencies, up to ultra-high frequencies above 7600MHz, according to officials. In addition, the daisy chain serial wiring which is different from the traditional parallel wiring design is specially designed in the circuit, which effectively eliminates the Stub effect, reduces the signal interference in the motherboard, and makes it easier to raise the memory frequency, in order to provide a stable experience.

In terms of storage, the gigabyte B760M AORUS PRO AX motherboard also supports the M.2 hard drive of PCIe 4.0m, which can be directly connected to CPU to achieve ultra-fast transmission speed. Due to the high fever of the hard disk of PCIe 4.0404, B760M AORUS PRO AX is also equipped with heat dissipation armor, which can provide additional heat dissipation bonus for SSD. In addition, it extends another M.2 interface from the motherboard chipset to meet the needs of large-capacity transmission.

The B760M AORUS PRO AX has two PCIe slots that support PCIe 4.0 and is also backward compatible with PCIe 3.0. And the slot is also wrapped in alloy armor to prevent it from being bent because the graphics card is too heavy.

In terms of IO interface, B760M AORUS PRO AX provides rich USB extensions. The IO panel contains one USB Type-C form of USB 3.2 Gen 2 20 Gen 2, 3 USB 3.2 Gen 1 interface, and 4 USB 2.0 interfaces. In addition, there are 1 group of audio interfaces and 1 optical fiber audio output interface, 1 DP interface and 1 HDMI interface.

In terms of network support, due to the latest wireless network card B760M AORUS PRO AX supports the new generation of Wi-Fi 6e 160MHz network, but also supports 2.5Gbps gigabit wired network card, it can be said that the network transmission is full.

As can be seen from the above hardware configuration, the material of gigabyte B760M AORUS PRO AX motherboard far exceeds the scope of B760M mid-end motherboard, close to the high-end Z790 motherboard. It has good scalability and strong power supply, which makes the B760M AORUS PRO AX a good choice with 13 generations of high-end non-K processors. Of course, you can't just have hardware stacking. The BIOS of the motherboard is the soul of the motherboard. Next, let's take a look at its BIOS experience.

BIOS experience gigabyte B760M AORUS PRO AX motherboard BIOS continues the classic orange-black color matching of the AORUS brand and supports Chinese. After entering BIOS, what still comes into view is the system information in simple mode, including CPU fundamental frequency, memory frequency, temperature and so on. The memory frequency can be quickly adjusted through the XMP configuration.

After pressing F2 to enter the advanced mode, the B760M AORUS PRO AX provides many adjustment options, including memory and CPU overclocking. Gigabyte puts all the common functions of overclocking on the first page, which is very convenient to adjust.

Of course, the B-series motherboard does not support CPU overclocking, but we can still do some step-down operations in BIOS, such as adjusting the CPU anti-voltage setting and so on, to solve the problem of high default voltage and high temperature.

In addition to overclocking and general information options, the B760M AORUS PRO AX also supports Smart Fan 5 intelligent fan adjustment technology and fast Q-Flash BIOS updates, and the graphical interface + large icons are also easy to adjust.

However, the biggest upgrade of the B760 series was the support for memory overclocking, due to the upgrade to DDR5 memory. Therefore, it is particularly sensitive to frequency. We also did a memory overclocking test here. In memory settings, you can easily adjust memory frequency doubling, Gear mode, timing and voltage. Ordinary users only need to open XMP to feel at ease to use it.

The default frequency of DDR5 is 4800MHz, in this state, read, write and delay performance are not satisfactory, so I recommend that you at least choose dual-channel memory above DDR5 6000MHz.

After opening XMP-6000MHz, the memory read and write has been greatly improved, and the latency has also decreased, which can meet the use of the vast majority of players.

Don't forget that gigabyte's new generation of motherboards generally support a cool techs: memory low latency technology (Low Latency). When this switch is turned on in BIOS, the motherboard will automatically reduce the memory latency and further improve the memory performance, which is better when it is turned on together with XMP.

When low latency is enabled, the latency is further reduced from 72.6ns of XMP to 66.4ns, while reading and writing are also improved, which can be said to be an automatic overclocking on the basis of XMP.

But we still want to push the limit of memory in hand, so we further increase the frequency to 6400MHz, and we can still boot smoothly. Have to say that B760M AORUS PRO AX memory overclocking compatibility is really good, the author used to exceed this set of memory on the Z690 motherboard is very difficult to increase the frequency, on this motherboard to 6400MHz is very easy. After overclocking, read and write and delay further evolve, and the performance is improved obviously.

Performance testing is followed by what the author is most concerned about-performance release. If the performance release of the B760M AORUS PRO AX is good enough, it will definitely become a cost-effective partner for high-end processors such as i9-13900 / i7-13700. We went directly to the maximum pressure, last i9-13900K, and single-baked FPU with AIDA64. After 15 minutes of baking machine test, the B760M AORUS PRO AX did not show overheating, power outage or blue screen. At first, it reached the highest power consumption of 320W, then the CPU power consumption was always stable at about 282W, and the CPU temperature was stable at 100 ℃. I think the bottleneck here is that i9-13900K is really too hot. There is no problem with the power supply and heat dissipation of the motherboard itself.

We use a thermal imager to photograph the core area of the motherboard and find that the hottest spot is just over 60 ℃. It seems that solid heat dissipation does play a role in stable performance release.

Then test Cinebench R20 with a single core score of 865 pts and a multi-core score of 14882 pts. Compared with the data we tested on Z790, the gap between single-core score and multi-core score is very small.

In Cinebench R23, the single core score is 2266 pts and the multi-core score is 38642 pts. Throughout the testing process, the performance of the gigabyte B760M AORUS PRO AX motherboard is stable, it can be said that the performance of i9-13900K has been fully released.

In 3DMark CPU Profile, you can achieve a score of 16368, and as can be seen from the purple performance bar below, there is almost no fluctuation in performance release. The visible power supply is very stable.

Finally, we run several 3A masterpieces that eat CPU performance and try to see the stability of this configuration in the actual use environment. The first is the "Wild Dart 2: redemption", which is a big fan of CPU. In order to avoid graphics card bottlenecks, all our games are tested under 2K resolution + quality DLSS. The actual running BenchMark can run at about 147frames, and the game experience is very stable and excellent.

In Tomb Raider: shadow, the number of frames also reached 165frames, and the results did not show CPU restrictions, but 100% GPU restrictions, indicating that the performance of CPU was completely overflowed, and the B760M motherboard did not affect the performance of i9-13900K.

Productivity test the author believes that the B760 motherboard is very suitable for creative production workstations. Because workstations generally have to use some relatively strong CPU, but do not dare to overclock, for fear of affecting the stability of the work. So a B760M AORUS PRO AX motherboard with i9 and performance-to-price ratio is very suitable, and then let's test some productivity tools to see its performance.

In V-Ray Benchmark, we got a score of 2332 for this set of configuration, which can successfully cope with most of the modeling rendering requirements.

We also tested the mainstream modeling software Blender, this set of configuration can also have a good performance, the specific scores are as follows, this result can be used to do some complex modeling.

In the latter part of the video, we tested PugetBench For Davinci and Adobe family buckets for you. The final score of this set of configuration can reach 2593 points in Davinci, so it is easy to deal with the multi-level color blending of 4K clips smoothly.

In Adobe Premiere, which is commonly used by creative workers, we turn on GPU Cuda acceleration and then test it with PugetBenchmark. The final score is 1513, which can easily deal with complex video clips of 4K or even 8K.

We also use PugetBenchmark for testing in Adobe Effects, another more stressful video special effects software. The final score is 1652, which shows that the creative production performance of this set of configuration is very excellent.

To sum up, in our test, gigabyte B760M AORUS PRO AX motherboard successfully withstood the pressure of i9-13900K, in practical use, I believe many people will use it with i7-13700 or i5-13400, not to mention these processors. Impressive 6mm heat pipe, can always maintain the stable operation of B760M AORUS PRO AX, gigabyte enough!
