Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--

CTOnews.com, January 4 (Xinhua) Apple may be one of the few major equipment manufacturers to adopt 3nm technology in 2023, while Qualcomm and MediaTek have not yet decided whether to follow up on the upgrade process. According to DigiTimes, although both companies want to keep up with Apple, they have not yet made a clear decision to join the 3nm camp this year.

According to the report, Qualcomm and MediaTek believe that there are two major concerns about whether to follow the 3nm process. The first is uncertain market prospects. The second 3nm process costs more than US $20, 000 (about RMB 138000) per wafer. These two concerns may cause the two companies to postpone the possibility of 3nm SoC.

CTOnews.com learned that both Qualcomm and MediaTek were "caught in the dilemma of whether to follow Apple in process upgrades in 2023." Qualcomm provides chips for many high-end Android flagship products, including Samsung phones. If Samsung wants to "cope with competition from Apple in the flagship mobile market," Qualcomm may have no choice but to use 3nm process technology, the report said.

Apple is widely expected to use TSMC's 3nm chip technology to launch the upcoming M2 Pro and M2 Max chips to power the updated 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro. A17 Bionic chips for iPhone 15 Pro and "iPhone 15 Ultra" are also expected to be based on 3nm process technology.
