CTOnews.com, January 4 (Xinhua)-- Google has launched a January security update as well as a January Pixel Feature Drop for the Pixel 6amp 7 series of models to provide spatial audio support for eligible headphones.

Spatial audio is promoted by Apple's AirPods Pro to simulate a multi-speaker surround sound environment. Android has been working on this feature for the past few months, introducing the code in Google 13 QPR1 beta, which was released last September. The feature was briefly launched in a stable version, but Google later withdrew it.

CTOnews.com learned that not many models currently enjoy this feature, only Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro (Pixel 6a is not supported), and Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro four models.

Mishaal Rahman, an Android expert at Esper.io, first discovered this change, bringing a new Spatializer API to Android that headphones can use to create a more powerful sound field. While it seems to support a lot of earplugs and headphones, of course, Google's own Pixel Buds Pro will (eventually) provide the best experience.
