Although the overall scale is small, it is not to be underestimated in the key ultra-high-end market; it is expected to reach double-digit market share this year and more than 20% next year. Samsung and Chinese OEM, which are eyeing the market, especially in Europe and China, will be the main driving forces. Apple is still not included in the report's short-term forecast.

CTOnews.com learned that global shipments of folding screen smartphones in fiscal 2023 are expected to grow 52% year-on-year to 22.7 million units. In fiscal year 2022, global shipments of folding screen phones will reach 14.9 million. Cumulative shipments from the first quarter to the third quarter of 2022 increased by 90% year-on-year to 9.5 million units, according to the report. However, due to global inflation and economic downturn, the growth of global smartphone shipments with folding screens is bound to decline in the fourth quarter of 2022.

Tarun Pathak, global smartphone business director at Counterpoint, said: "this shipment may be negligible in the context of the entire smartphone market, but if you consider the ultra-high-end market that has always been important ($1000, equivalent to 7000 yuan and above), we will find that folding screen phones are beginning to dominate. In this market segment, the share of shipments of folding screen phones has reached double digits this year, and we expect that number to grow to more than 20% by 2023. "

More Chinese OEM are expected to enter the market, so competition in the global folding screen mobile phone market is bound to intensify in 2023, the report said. However, Samsung is expected to continue to lead the market. Glory, Motorola and Xiaomi will actively enter the folding screen smartphone market outside China. Meanwhile, Huawei, OPPO and vivo are expected to launch new folding screen mobile phones in 2023. In view of the increasing competition in the folding screen smartphone market, the price is expected to be more user-friendly in 2023. High prices have always been a major obstacle to the popularity of folding screen devices.

Commenting on the folding screen smartphone market, senior analyst Jene Park said: "as more OEM companies enter the market in 2023, competition in the global folding screen smartphone market is expected to intensify. Samsung launched the Galaxy W 23 Flip / Fold to meet the demand for folding screen phones in China, while Chinese OEM manufacturers set their sights on the Western European market.
