Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
CTOnews.com, January 3, according to The Information, Apple's hybrid reality head display will have a physical dial to switch views to the real world, as well as a small motor that automatically adjusts its lenses.
The report claims to reveal a series of previously unheard-of functions of the head, including:
On its right is a small dial similar to a digital crown, allowing users to quickly switch between the virtual and physical worlds. Unlike Apple Watch, it does not provide tactile feedback.
Although it was once rumored that the headband would be as replaceable as the Apple Watch watch band, this is no longer the case, as engineers face the technical challenge of using the headband as a "power pipe" for the headband.
Prescription lenses tailored for the wearer can be magnetically absorbed.
The small motor can automatically adjust its lenses to fit the distance between the wearer's pupils, providing everyone with as large a field of view as possible.
The 120-degree field is larger than the 106-degree field of view of Meta Quest Pro and Valve Index.
The H2 chip is used for ultra-low latency connection with the second generation AirPods Pro.
It is equipped with two chips, including a main SoC, including CPU, GPU and memory, and a special image signal processor. Both are manufactured in a 5-nanometer process, and the chips communicate through a custom streaming codec that Apple was forced to develop because of unacceptable delays.
The dedicated ISP translates the distorted image captured by the external camera into faithful video of the user's surroundings with low latency. The chip contains custom high-bandwidth memory made by SK Hynix.
User input is expected to come mainly from gestures and speech recognition.
The Information also independently confirmed the existence of previously reported features from sources such as Bloomberg, Nikkei Asia and DigiTimes.
The front of the device contains a large outward-facing display screen that shows the wearer's facial expression to the people around you, seeking to reduce loneliness when using the device.
The outward-facing display features ultra-low refresh rate and low power consumption, much like the all-weather display of Apple Watch and iPhone 14 Pro.
The internal display screen has a 4K resolution per eye and uses Sony's Micro OLED panel, which makes up 8K images as a whole.
Each eye is tracked by at least one camera, allowing the head display to accurately track whether the user is staring at the avatar. Eye tracking also enables the head display to perform sunken rendering to save power and render full-resolution images directly only where the user sees them.
More than a dozen cameras and sensors capture facial expressions and body movements, including the user's legs. When Apple developed machine learning to accomplish this task, it removed the camera that captures eyebrow and chin movements.
Equipped with short-distance and long-distance LiDAR scanners, you can draw surfaces and distances in three-dimensional space.
Apple supplier Heshuo, which assembled thousands of head-display prototypes at a factory near Shanghai last year, has passed several prototype stages and entered engineering verification tests, the report said.
In addition, Apple has discussed the pricing of the head display, which is about $3000 (about 20730 yuan) or more, depending on its configuration, according to four people familiar with the matter to The Information. The product, which uses ultra-high-quality components and materials such as aluminum, glass and carbon fiber, is said to be thinner and lighter than the just released Meta Quest Pro.
The game is not expected to be a major use case for the product, and Apple "sees videoconferencing as a potential killer app", using digital avatars for virtual conversations. Groups within Apple are working on educational content in augmented reality, and the iPhone app will run in a superimposed 2D format.
CTOnews.com learned that the release date of Apple's first hybrid reality show is still unknown and is expected to be officially released sometime this year.
