CTOnews.com January 4 news, whistleblower ShrimpApplePro tweeted yesterday that the memory specifications of Apple's iPhone product line will not be upgraded until next year. IPhone 15 series models launched this year will still use LPDDR5 specifications, while next year's iPhone 16 series will be upgraded to LPDDR5X specifications.

CTOnews.com learned from the whistleblower ShrimpApplePro's tweet that the A18 Bionic processor used in the Apple iPhone 16 series, like the A17 Bionic, is based on TSMC's 3nm process and uses LPDDR5X memory.

Currently, iPhone 14 Pro uses LPDDR5, and iPhone 15 Pro will also use LPDDR5 memory later this year. The A17 Bionic of iPhone 15 Pro will use TSMC's N3B chip process, while the A18 Bionic will be based on TSMC's enhanced 3nm process.

Although there is no change in the type of memory, the iPhone 15 Pro may be equipped with 8GB memory instead of the 6GB currently provided by high-end iPhone. With more memory, users will be able to enjoy the multitasking of the iOS system with multiple applications open in the background, and the 2024 LPDDR5X may help improve battery efficiency.

Compared with LPDDR5, LPDDR5X can increase speed by 17% and reduce latency by 15%. It is very suitable for 5G communications, automotive high-resolution AR / V, AI edge computing and other application scenarios.
