Electric vehicles accounted for 79.3 per cent of new car sales in Norway in 2022, up from 65 per cent in 2021, up from 2.9 per cent a decade ago, according to data.

It is reported that this is due to the government's subsidy measures such as exemption from VAT for car purchases, but this has brought a large financial burden, and preferential policies have shrunk since this year. It is reported that Norway is one of the major natural gas and oil producers in Europe, but due to the promotion efforts, the penetration rate of electric vehicles is among the highest in the world. At present, about 1/5 of the cars on the road in Norway are pure electric vehicles.

It is worth mentioning that Tesla became the best-selling car brand in Norway for the second year in a row. Tesla's share of the entire Norwegian car market is 12.2 per cent, surpassing Volkswagen's 11.6 per cent. Tesla Model Y is the most popular model of the year, with Volkswagen ID.4 in second place and Skoda Enyaq in third place.

CTOnews.com has learned that Norway has so far granted tax exemption to pure electric vehicles in order to become the first country to stop selling gasoline and diesel cars by 2025. Now the Norwegian government is seeking to limit discounts for high-end cars and introduce a new weight-based car tax.
