January 3 news, according to foreign media reports, semiconductor manufacturing equipment supplier Applied Materials (Applied Materials) has invested about 51 billion won in Absolics, a semiconductor subsidiary of SK Group, and this investment will be used to build Absolics glass substrate production facilities in the United States.

In addition to applied materials, SK Group has also invested an additional 115 billion won in Absolics.

Founded in 1967, Applied Materials is a semiconductor and display equipment manufacturer that provides equipment, services and software to electronics chip and computer panel manufacturers. In the third quarter of 2022, revenue from the company's semiconductor business grew 15 per cent year-on-year and 26.0 per cent month-on-month.

In December 2022, Applied Materials announced its intention to invest billions of dollars in its innovative infrastructure in the United States and to expand its global manufacturing capacity between now and 2030.
