CTOnews.com, January 3 (Xinhua)-- Wechat recently issued an announcement on the rules governing the management of technical service fees for video merchants. For more than two years, video accounts have been exempted from technical service fees to help merchants operate. With the increasing demand for fine operation of merchants, in order to better provide technical services to video merchants and promote their high-quality development, video will charge merchants for technical services from January 1, 2023.

Any new merchant who signs up to open a store on the video number can enjoy the special discount of "technical service rate reduced to 1 million yuan within 1% of the transaction volume" within 30 days from the effective date of signing the store.

The rule, which will take effect on January 1, 2023, will apply to all merchants on the video account platform, including but not limited to video account merchants, WeChat Mini Programs video account trading components merchants, and WeChat Mini Programs upgraded custom trading components merchants. If the merchant continues to use the corresponding function after the entry into force of the rule, it is deemed to have agreed to the rule.

CTOnews.com learned that the technical service fee is the fee charged by the platform for providing merchants with functions including commodity information display, commodity trading capability, traffic support and so on. According to the data of the video number technical service fee list, the rate is between 1% and 5% according to the category of goods.

The technical service fee will be directly deducted from the settlement of each order. Technical service charge = technical service fee rate x settlement base. Among them, the settlement base = the amount actually paid by the video number user (including freight) + payment subsidy. In other words, every time a video merchant sells a commodity, he will charge WeChat Pay for technical services in proportion.

According to industry estimates, after charging merchants, according to the video number live e-commerce daily transaction volume of 100 million yuan in September 2022, the video number can earn 2 million-5 million yuan in technical service fees per day, and merchants will pay at least 8 billion yuan more in 2023.

It is worth mentioning that Ma Huateng once said at the Tencent internal staff meeting: "the brightest business of WXG (Weixin Group) is the video number, which is basically the hope of the whole audience (the whole company)."
