CTOnews.com, January 3, according to a recent report by Electrek, Tesla plans to launch the "short-range" version of Model Y to the North American market in 2023. They found that Tesla's online configurator website code can already see the relevant information on the back end, and the new model is ready to debut.

It is said that the version, which appears to be a dual-motor AWD version, will be equipped with 4680 batteries from the Texas plant and will have a range of 279mph (449km), starting at just $61990. For comparison, the existing long-range model, the Model Y, has an EPA range of 330 miles.

CTOnews.com learned that Tesla actually offered the cheaper Model Y briefly in North America as early as 2021, but the company soon deleted the configuration because Musk said he didn't like shorter mileage.

Tesla officially still has only two versions of the Model Y, including the expensive dual-motor all-wheel drive long-range and performance versions, which cost $65990 and $69990, respectively.
