CTOnews.com, January 2, according to The Elec, Samsung expects its annual operating profit on semiconductor sales to reach about 13.1 trillion won (about 71.919 billion yuan) in 2023. Samsung shared the data with employees in a note explaining their performance in 2022 and affecting the amount of bonuses expected to be paid in January.

Samsung pays employees performance rewards at the beginning of each year. This amount is paid from profits that exceed each business unit's target for the previous year. As much as 20% of the surplus profit is used as a bonus, and each employee can receive up to 50% of the annual salary as a reward.

Samsung shares the expected annual profits of each business unit, as well as the target profits and revenue of each business in 2023. This covers the equipment solutions division of the memory, logic and contract manufacturing business units, with an estimated annual operating profit of 13.1 trillion won.

CTOnews.com has learned that if this goal is met, employees are expected to receive a bonus equivalent to 5-11 per cent of their 2023 salary, which will be paid in January 2024.

To earn up to 50 per cent of the bonus, they must achieve an annual operating profit of 28 trillion won (about 153.72 billion yuan), which is almost impossible this year, given the current downturn in the global memory chip market.

If Samsung's expectations are met, its semiconductor operating profit in 2023 will be about half of its 2022 operating profit. Analysts expect Samsung's semiconductor operating profit to range from 25 trillion won (about 137.25 billion yuan) to 26 trillion won (142.74 billion yuan) in 2022.
