CTOnews.com, Dec. 30 (Xinhua)-- market research firm Trend Force predicts that Samsung Electronics will ship 39.7 million televisions this year and 39.8 million next year. LG Electronics sold 24.85 million units this year and 24.95 million next year.

Analysts believe that Hisense, which is dominated by low-cost products, is expected to rank third in global TV shipments from this year. If the figures are accurate, TV shipments of Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics, which have been maintained for more than a decade, will decline sharply from this year.

According to public information, Samsung Electronics shipped more than 40 million televisions steadily in the 12 years from 2010 to last year, while LG Electronics shipped more than 25 million televisions in 14 years from 2008 to last year.

CTOnews.com learned that Samsung's TV shipments last year were 13.2% lower than the previous year, but with 41.65 million units as the baseline, and this year fell 4.7% to less than 40 million units. LG Electronics'TV shipments plunged 14.7% this year to less than 25 million units.

In the first half of this year, Samsung Electronics and other companies sharply reduced panel orders due to the expansion of TV inventory, so shipments of major TV companies are likely to fall off a cliff this year. In the third quarter of last year, Samsung's panel purchases fell by 53.8% compared with the same period last year. Over the same period, LG Electronics and Sony of Japan also decreased by 16.1% and 43.3%.

Analysts expect TV shipments of Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics to rise 0.3 per cent and 0.4 per cent respectively next year compared with the previous year. This year, global TV shipments will fall 3.9% from the previous year to 220 million units, and next year will only drop 1.4% to 199 million units.
