CTOnews.com, December 30 (Xinhua) India is planning to follow the EU's USB-C restrictions, starting from March 2025 to force phones sold in the country to have USB-C ports. This means that Apple's iPhone 16 series models launched in the fall of 2024 will have to switch to USB-C ports if they are to be sold in India.

According to Business Standard, Indian Consumer Affairs Secretary Rohit Kumar Singh said the plan applies to two common digital products, "mobile" and "wearable electronics", which will be enforced in India after March 2025, Tuyuan Flicker reported.

"BIS has published the USB-C port standard, which requires two types of digital devices, mobile phones and wearable electronic devices, to force the use of USB-C ports," Singh said.

CTOnews.com has learned that the EU requires mobile devices sold in the EU to be equipped with USB-C ports between 2024 and 2025. Greg Joswiak, Apple's head of marketing, said in a recent interview that the company will comply with this mandatory requirement, which means we may be less than three years away from the actual iPhone with USB-C ports.
