CTOnews.com, December 29 (Xinhua) according to PTI, the Indian government is planning to introduce a general charging solution for wearable devices. This means that the Indian government may force all upcoming wearable devices in the country, such as smart bracelets / watches and wireless headphones, to have the same charging solution.

At present, there is no specific information on India's proposed charging solution, and it is not clear whether it involves wired or wireless. At present, there are some charging solutions used by a large number of devices on the market, such as Qi wireless charging. Almost all smartphones with wireless charging support the Qi standard, and there are already many Qi wireless chargers on the market.

Currently, most brands, including Apple and Samsung, offer proprietary wireless charging solutions for their smartwatches. If the Indian government passes regulations on universal charging solutions for wearable devices, these brands will have to abandon their proprietary charging solutions and adopt those introduced by the Indian government. This will be a big step for brands and will require a fundamental change in product design.

However, the plan is likely to face many changes. Lobbying from consumer technology brands is common and India needs to consider setting balanced rules that may even delay such a decision if consumer brands strongly object.

CTOnews.com has learned that the Indian government has also been planning to use USB Type-C ports as a universal charging solution for smartphones, tablets and laptops sold in the region. India will take this measure to bring it into line with EU law, which requires all mobile phones to use the USB Type-C interface from 2024. Speaking of which, the government also announced that it had proposed a standard for USB Type-C charging ports, but its details remained confidential.
