CTOnews.com December 29 news, TSMC held a 3 nm mass production and plant expansion ceremony in Tainan Science Park this morning, officially announced the start of 3 nm mass production.

According to Taiwan media Central News Agency, TSMC Chairman Liu Deyin said that wafer 18 plant is TSMC's 5 nm and 3 nm production center, with a total investment of NT $1.86 trillion (about 422.22 billion yuan) and is expected to create 11,300 direct high-tech jobs.

According to Taiwan Economic Daily, Liu Deyin said that the yield of 3 nm process is equivalent to that of 5 nm mass production, which is the most advanced semiconductor technology in the world. It is applied to cloud, high-speed network and mobile devices, and the market demand is very strong.

CTOnews.com understands that according to Liu Deyin, compared with 5 nm, the logic density of 3 nm process is increased by 60%, and the power consumption is reduced by 30% to 35% at the same speed. It is expected that the contribution to revenue after 3 nm mass production will be greater than the contribution of 5 nm in the same period, and 3 nm mass production will release 1.5 trillion US dollars (about 10.47 trillion yuan) of terminal product value within 5 years.
