Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
December 28 (Xinhua) according to statistics from Forbes magazine, global billionaires lost nearly $2 trillion in 2022, of which the super-rich in the United States lost a total of $660 billion, as rising interest rates, soaring inflation and economic deterioration contributed to the collapse in the price of technology stocks.
Tuyuan Pexels estimates that the total wealth of the world's billionaires fell from $13.8 trillion on that day to $11.9 trillion on December 9, and the number of billionaires fell from 2671 to 2523, including cryptocurrency mogul Sam Bankman-Fried (Sam Bankman-Fried), rapper Kanye West and electric carmaker Rivian founder RJ. Well-known tycoons, including RJ Scaringe, have slipped from the list.
The 300 tech millionaires on the list were the hardest hit, losing more than $1 trillion in 2022. Amazon's share price fell nearly 50 per cent, reducing the net worth of its founder, Jeff Bezos, by $80 billion. Shares of Google's parent company Alphabet fell 36%, with co-founders Larry Page (Larry Page) and Sergey Brin (Sergey Brin) losing more than $40 billion each.
Microsoft shares have fallen 27% as of December 9, reducing the wealth of co-founder Bill Gates and former chief executive Steve Steve Ballmer, though gates' wealth has fallen sharply this year for another reason. This summer, he donated $20 billion to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Forbes magazine classifies Mark Zuckerberg as a media and entertainer, and his wealth has shrunk by $78 billion this year as the share price of Facebook parent company Meta fell 66 per cent.
By far the biggest loser in 2022 is Elon Musk, who Forbes lists as an auto billionaire because most of his net worth comes from electric carmaker Tesla. Tesla's share price has fallen 60% as of December 20 this year, in part because of investors' concerns that Musk is spending too much time and money on Twitter.
Musk lost more than $115 billion in wealth in 2022, according to Forbes. At the beginning of this year, he became the richest man in the world with a fortune of $70 billion, far ahead of French luxury tycoon Bernard Arnault. But earlier this month, Mr Musk gave up his position as the richest man to Mr Arnault, and his net worth continued to plummet. Although Musk lost his position as the richest man in the world this year, he is still the richest man in the United States. As of December 27, Musk's net worth was close to $139 billion, according to Forbes.
