According to the internal plan, Tesla's Shanghai Super Factory will cut production in January next year, which also means that the factory's production reduction plan from this month will be extended to next year.

According to the plan, Tesla Shanghai Super Factory will produce electric cars for 17 consecutive days from January 3 to January 19 and stop producing electric cars from January 20 to January 31, which is longer than the Lunar New year holiday.

Tesla did not specify the specific reasons for the reduction in production in his production plan, and it is not clear whether work outside the Model 3 and Model Y assembly lines of Tesla's Shanghai super factory will continue during the planned shutdown. It is not customary for Tesla to stop production for a long time during the Lunar New year.

Tesla didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.

Tesla reportedly suspended production at the Shanghai super factory on Saturday, ahead of schedule to suspend most of the plant's production work in the last week of December.

Earlier this month, Tesla offered more discounts to Chinese consumers who bought their electric cars that month. The company cut the prices of Model 3 and Model Y sold in China by 9%, as well as subsidized car insurance fees.

Tesla Shanghai Super Factory is the company's most important manufacturing center. It is reported that the factory maintained normal operation in the last week of December and took a three-day break during the Lunar New year.

Tesla's Shanghai super factory, which employs about 20, 000 workers, accounted for more than half of Tesla's total output in the first three quarters of 2022.

Tesla had previously set a target of 50 per cent growth in production and delivery of electric vehicles in 2022. Analysts expect the company's electric vehicle production to fall below that target, up nearly 45 per cent from the previous year, according to forecasts for the fourth quarter, which is coming to an end.
