CTOnews.com, December 27 (Xinhua) Xiaomi today announced a partnership with Indian telecom operator Reliance Jio to introduce independent (SA) 5G technology into Xiaomi and Redmi 5G devices to provide users with a "true 5G (True 5G)" experience.

Xiaomi said that it has provided users with OTA updates that support SA networks, and users can seamlessly connect to Reliance Jio's True 5G (SA) network by changing the preferred network type to 5G in Xiaomi and Redmi smartphone settings. In addition, all Xiaomi and Redmi 5G phones also support Airtel 5G (NSA) services.

CTOnews.com has learned that currently supported devices include Xiaomi 11 Ultra 5G, Xiaomi 12 Pro 5G, Xiaomi 11T Pro 5G, Redmi Note 11 Pro+ 5G, Xiaomi 11 Lite NE 5G, Redmi Note 11T 5G, Redmi 11 Prime 5G, Redmi Note 10T 5G, Xiaomi 11X 5G, Xiaomi 11X Pro 5G, Redmi K50i 5G, Xiaomi 11i 5G and Xiaomi 11i HyperCharge 5G.

Xiaomi said its Redmi K50i and Redmi Note 11T 5G smartphones have been carefully tested through Reliance Jio's True 5G network to ensure a smooth connection and really help improve the user experience. Xiaomi says most of its 5G-enabled devices work best with Reliance Jio's True 5G network.

Commenting on the partnership, Xiaomi India President Muralikrishnan B said:

In the past two years, Xiaomi has been working on building IndiaReady5G. We have been leading the 5G revolution, with smartphones providing a compelling 5G experience with top features at honest pricing. To further enhance the consumer experience and connectivity, we are pleased to work with Reliance Jio's True 5G network. We hope this will help consumers enjoy the best 5G experience on their Xiaomi and Hongmi phones through Reliance Jio's True 5G experience.

CTOnews.com has reported that 5G services were officially launched in India on October 1, covering 13 cities and will be available to nearly 75 per cent of the population by the end of this year.

"Jio now covers 5G networks in Gujarat, India, and users can get 5G services free of charge."
