Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
It is hardly news that Bao Ke Meng has taken the pirated Pokemon game to court.
For more than 20 years since the birth of Bao Ke Meng, countless pirated manufacturers coveted the revenue ability of this IP and did not hesitate to take risks to try the law. In order to maintain the brand image and crack down on copycat piracy, the legal departments of Nintendo and Pokemon have never been idle. For example, in September this year, the domestic mobile game Pokemon Reproduction was sued on suspicion of infringement, involving as much as 500 million yuan, which sounded a wake-up call for everyone in the industry.
In the self-worried piracy industry, everyone is well aware of the truth of "making a fortune with silence." after all, the opponent is the "strongest legal department in the Eastern Hemisphere," and piracy should have been lost first, but Pok é mon Pty, a shanzhai Pok é mon developer who was recently sued in court, obviously has his own idea.
Pok é mon Pty, a company founded in 2016, has a Kotiota studio that specializes in Pokemon. They claim to be deeply involved in the development and production of the Pok é mon series, and have a serious list of works such as "Pok é mon Zhu / Purple" and "Pok é mon Home" on the official website.
Not only that, Kotiota studio is brazenly communicating with the game media, frequently touching porcelain Bao Kemeng IP as a copycat pirate manufacturer. According to feedback from several foreign media, they received several mysterious emails in August this year, asking the media to add the name of Kotiota Studio to the manuscripts of the Pokemon movie. After sensing that something was wrong, the media took the initiative to contact Bao Ke Meng to confirm the facts, which brought the high-profile pirated company to the attention of the authorities.
If it's just a word of mouth, Kotiota Studios may not be guilty of this, but in fact, they are working on a meta-universe game "PokeWorld" based on Pokemon. From the introduction given by the website, it is not difficult to see that this is a "NFT game featuring Pokemon", in which players win NFT currency through Pokemon and use NFT currency transactions to make a profit, similar to other blockchain games on the market.
If the development goes well, PokeWorld will be officially launched next year, but now they will face legal sanctions.
On December 21, the Australian Federal Court heard the suspected infringement case of "PokeWorld". According to the Australian Consumer Act, the game will be permanently removed from Australia, and Pok é mon Pty and Kotiota Studios will also bear many penalties, presumably knowing that they have no chance of winning, and the pirated manufacturer chose to be absent on the day of the trial.
Afterwards, Pokemon also issued a statement, repeatedly stressed that they and Nintendo will not launch any Pokemon-related NFT products, and called on everyone to beware of pirated games. If you can keep a low profile, Kotiota Studios may be able to wait for its games to hit the market. I don't know how many pirated Pokemon manufacturers are still alive, but I'm afraid a second one like Kotiota Studios won't be found.
