High electricity prices in Europe are expected to last for years, according to economists, which could discourage consumers from buying electric cars and threaten the continent's electrified transformation.

However, so far, there is no sign that the rising charging cost of electric vehicles has affected the sales of electric vehicles. In the three months to the end of September, sales of pure electric vehicles totaled 259000, up 11% from a month earlier and 22% from a year earlier, according to the European Association of Automobile Manufacturers. In the third quarter, electric vehicles accounted for 11.9% of all new car sales in the European Union.
