CTOnews.com, December 27 (Xinhua) A new survey by Stack Overflow shows that although developers mainly work on the Windows platform, developers prefer to use Linux as the development platform compared to the macOS platform.

Stack Overflow conducted a survey of more than 70,000 developers this year, writing in the survey report: "every year we explore the tools and technologies that developers are currently using and what they want to use. We have favorite Loved, Dreaded and Wanted data, as well as Worked With (currently using tools and technologies) and Want to Work With (wanting to use tools and technologies), which shows us exactly what developers have used in the past year and what they want to do in the next year.

CTOnews.com learned that Windows took the lead in the platforms used by developers, with 62.33% of respondents using Windows for personal use and 48.82% for work. Linux ranked second, with 40 per cent and 40 per cent respectively, while Mac was at the bottom with 31 per cent and 33 per cent. Interestingly, Microsoft's Windows Subsystem for Linux ranks fourth, with 15% and 14% usage, respectively, indicating that Linux is even more popular among developers.

In terms of actual developer technology, Microsoft Visual Studio Code is by far the most popular integrated development environment (IDE) with a utilization rate of 75%, followed by Microsoft Visual Studio (32%), IntelliJ (28%), Notepad++ (28%), Vim (23%) and Android Studio (20%). (Apple's Xcode ranks 11th very far away with 10.5%).

The most popular developer framework is Microsoft .NET with a usage rate of 34.5%, followed by NumPy (27%), Pandas (25%), Spring (16%), TensorFlow (13%), and Flutter (12.6%).

In terms of network framework, Node.js is the most popular, with a utilization rate of 47.12%, followed by React.js (42.6%), jQuery (28.6%), Express (23%), Angular (20.4%), Vue.js (18.9%), ASP.NET Core (19%) and ASP.NET (15%). Interestingly, Microsoft's two web frameworks together account for almost 34% of usage.

Amazon AWS remains the dominant web platform, with 51% usage, followed by Microsoft Azure (29%), Google Cloud (27%) and Firebase (21%). MySQL is the most popular database (46.9%), followed by PostgreSQL (44%), SQLite (32%), MongoDB (28%) and Microsoft SQL Server (27%).
