"the universe is vast and the years are long.
I would always like to tell you stories about the universe. "
"the universe is made up of dust.
A variety of different shapes bloom in the air. "
Miss Cat's wave function
The universe is like a dark curtain dotted with countless floating galaxies. The James Webb Space Telescope can capture galaxies 13.5 billion light-years away. Photons from distant galaxies begin their long journey into space and time. Without the sun and earth, these ancient photons, after hundreds of millions of years of silence, bring pre-flight images into a planet in the solar system called Earth, into your pupils.
Photons are messengers of the universe, and the pictures we see are the distant past of the stars, which is precisely the "time pause" characteristic of photons, which is why we can try to understand the origin of the universe and the evolution of galaxies. Understand the cosmic dust like us.
IIZW 96
Webb's image of the merger of two galaxies located 500 million light-years away in the constellation Dolphin is particularly clear in the infrared band, and if there are intelligent creatures in it, they can hardly change the situation. This is what the Milky way and the Andromeda will experience in 4 billion years.
Exoplanets contain many compounds
The Weber Telescope detected an exoplanet 700 light-years away, a planet in the constellation Virgo. Analysis of the observed data confirmed that the exoplanet WASP-39b contains elements such as water, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide, sodium and potassium, with an outer layer temperature of about 9000 ℃, which is not suitable for human habitation. (no direct image of the planet was captured, as shown in the rendering above. )
Abell 2744, Pandora Cluster
4 billion light-years from Earth, two high-brightness ancient galaxies have been found in the southern constellation Yufu, one of which is the most distant galaxy in history:
GLASS-z13, formed 13.4 billion years ago, only 350 million years ago, farther than the GN-z11 detected by Hubble, refreshed a new chapter in astronomy. Through analysis, it is found that gas and dust in galaxies may have begun to gather only 100 million years after the Big Bang, indicating that the dark age of the universe is shorter than previously predicted, and Webb's surprise has just begun.
Dark nebula L1527
The protostar L1527, located in Taurus, 430 light-years from Earth, was formed about 100,000 years ago, with a mass of 20-40% of that of the sun, and is currently in the earliest stage of star birth. The nebula's cloud cluster can only be seen in the infrared band. This is the wavelength of Webb's study. The protostar, located in the "neck" of the hourglass, is collecting cosmic gas and dust while ejecting matter. In an unstable state, with the accumulation of gas and dust, the core gradually compresses, and more and more matter rotates around the center to form a dense disk, and finally nuclear fusion becomes a star similar to the sun. it is convenient for us to study the early state and evolution of the solar system.
Irregular galaxies in the constellation Cetaceus
This is a cetacean galaxy 3 million light-years from Earth. The irregular galaxy in the constellation Cetaceus is an isolated galaxy, which is called an isolated galaxy because it has not interacted with other galaxies. Therefore, it is suitable for the study of galaxy formation and evolution. Elements in galaxies are made up of hydrogen and helium, lacking heavier elements than hydrogen and helium, similar to the early state of the universe.
The pillar of creation
The finger-like image is located at the center of the Eagle Nebula, about 6500 light-years away. Webb's near-infrared light can penetrate a thick dust cloud. The red spots in the nebula are newly born stars with a history of only hundreds of thousands of years. The red stripes seen in the clouds are ejections after star formation, and the universe is always amazing.
Galaxy cluster MACS0647 and background galaxy MACS0647-JD
Each dot in the picture is a galaxy, a gravitational lens created by a massive galaxy cluster. This background galaxy was formed in the early stages of the universe about 400 million years after the birth of the Big Bang, more than 32 billion light-years away. We don't know how the Milky way formed. Studying this galaxy helps to explore how the universe evolves over time. There are still too many unknowns to explore.
IC 1623
270 million light-years away, a pair of intertwined galaxies are merging. The merging of galaxies causes starbursts, where stars are created 20 times faster than the Milky way. The merging of galaxies is likely to form supermassive black holes. Hubble and other telescopes have observed the two galaxies before, but the thick dust blocked the field of view. Weber obtained a lot of data through infrared equipment to study. The beauty of the universe is irreplaceable by anything.
The Cosmic Ring WR 140
This is a pair of spectroscopic binaries in the Milky way galaxy, located in the constellation Cygnus, just 5000 light-years from Earth. The dust produced by the two stars rotating each other converges to form tree-like rings, one ring every eight years. Webb observed 17 rings.
VV 191
A combination of Weber's spectral observations at different wavelengths, located 690 million light-years from Earth in the constellation Auriga, on the left is the elliptical galaxy VV 191a, the orange arc at the top left is the gravitational lens effect of distant galaxies, and on the right is the spiral galaxy VV 191b. Although the two galaxies look close, they do not affect each other.
Neptune
This is the highest resolution picture of Neptune obtained so far in 1989, clearly showing Neptune's planetary rings, dust rings and atmospheric circulation in the southern hemisphere.
Neptune is an ice giant planet with a cloud top temperature of only-218 ℃. It is blue because of the presence of methane in the atmosphere. Neptune is 30 times farther from the sun than the earth. It takes 164years to orbit the sun, making it the farthest of the eight planets in the solar system.
Spiral galaxy IC 5332
More than 2900 light-years from Earth and 1/3 of the diameter of the Milky way, this galaxy faces us almost completely, so we can see the spiral arm structure of the entire galaxy, showing the distribution of dust in the galaxy.
Jupiter aurora
Webb's infrared photos of Jupiter clearly show the never-ending storm cyclones and auroras on Jupiter. Jupiter's magnetic field is 20,000 times that of Earth, so its poles are permanently filled with auroras caused by collisions between charged particles in the universe and the atmosphere. the faint halo shows that the planet's environment is not so bad, and you may never imagine that Jupiter, which can be seen at night, is so dreamy.
We are the wreckage of matter and antimatter annihilating each other at the beginning of time, and it is also a miracle that there will not be two identical galaxies in the universe, just as there is only one you in this world.
