Samsung's wafer capacity for memory and system semiconductors is said to have increased by about 10% in 2023.

According to industry sources, Samsung Electronics will add DRAM devices to its P3 plant in Pyeongze, South Korea, with a 12-inch wafer production capacity of 70,000 wafers per month, and next year will increase P3 foundry wafer production capacity by 30,000 wafers (a total of 100000), higher than the current P3 DRAM production line of 20,000 wafers per month.

Samsung Electronics plans to use the new device to produce a 12-nanometer DRAM. As of the third quarter of this year, Samsung produced 665, 000 DRAM wafers per month.

According to reports, Samsung Electronics plans to increase the monthly wafer production of the P3 plant by 30,000 wafers. As of the third quarter of this year, Samsung Electronics has an overall monthly foundry production of 476,000 wafers. In addition, Samsung Electronics has decided to install at least 10 new extreme Ultraviolet Lithography (EUV) devices next year, compared with only 40.

Samsung's largest semiconductor factory is the P3 plant in Pyeongze, which began construction at the end of 2020 and took nearly two years to build, starting in July this year to produce state-of-the-art NAND flash memory chips, as well as application processors and other semiconductors in the future.

Samsung reported operating profit of 10.85 trillion won in the third quarter of 2022, down 31.4% from a year earlier and 23% from a month earlier, while net profit was 9.39 trillion won, down 23.6% from a year earlier.

Samsung's competitors have cut back on investment because of falling demand and a glut of chips. But Samsung said in October that it had no intention of cutting chip production, contrary to the industry-wide trend of cutting production to meet medium-and long-term demand.
