Tesla, a US electric carmaker, confirmed that it produced 868,000 4680 batteries last week, and the current output of the new batteries is enough to support the production of 1000 Model Y electric vehicles a week.

The 4680 battery is a new battery launched by Tesla in 2020, and it is also the first battery developed by the company from scratch.

Prior to this, Tesla was also involved in the development of batteries, but his main work was to adjust the chemical structure of 18650 and 2170 batteries. Subsequently, Tesla plans to develop a battery with larger capacity on his own. Tesla also plans to produce its own batteries by working with existing battery manufacturers.

Tesla has been tight-lipped about the manufacturing data of 4680 batteries. Tesla's latest accurate data was announced in February 2022 that the company's pilot plant in Fremont, Calif., had completed the first batch of 1 million 4680 batteries.

Since then, Tesla has issued only a few statements about the percentage increase in production and did not confirm the actual production.

Today, Tesla confirmed for the first time the actual production speed of 4680 batteries, saying that the factory team produced 868000 4680 batteries last week, enough to produce more than 1000 Model Ys.

In addition to producing 4680 batteries at a pilot plant in Fremont, California, Tesla will also set up a battery production line at a super factory in Texas to shorten shipping time in the supply chain.

Tesla's battery supply problems have eased over the past year as battery suppliers continue to increase production, but most of Tesla's business growth next year is expected to be related to the company's ability to increase battery production by 4680.

Tesla seems to have encountered a lot of problems in mass production of 4680 batteries, but the latest figures may mean that Tesla has overcome many production bottlenecks, and 4680 battery production is likely to increase steadily.
