CTOnews.com news on December 24, in addition to setting up factories in the United States and Japan, Taiwan's leading chip company TSMC is also preparing to set up factories in Europe.

TSMC is currently in in-depth discussions with major suppliers and is expected to send a team to Germany early next year to discuss the construction of its first European plant in Dresden, Germany, including the level of support that the German government can provide and local supply chain capacity to meet TSMC's needs, according to the Financial Times and Nikkei News.

In response, TSMC responded: "there are many considerations in choosing the location of the plant. TSMC's expansion of its global manufacturing territory is based on customer demand, business opportunities, operational efficiency, cost economy and other considerations, and does not rule out any possibility. but there is no specific plan at present. Everything is mainly based on the company's formal announcement."

TSMC's first European plant is likely to be located in the eastern German city of Dresden, a move that will allow TSMC to take advantage of booming demand from the region's car industry, according to the Financial Times.

As early as October this year, the German media disclosed that the German Ministry of Economic Affairs stressed that it was willing to provide subsidies to encourage semiconductor operators to set up factories in Germany. A spokesman said the German government's goal was to "enhance the R & D capacity and production capacity of Germany and the EU to create favorable conditions for supply chain diversification."

Previously, TSMC Chairman Liu Deyin also pointed out at the lecture that TSMC continues to evaluate possible plant construction plans at various locations, and that the main consideration for building overseas plants is customer demand. TSMC has begun to build plants in the United States and Japan, while there are relatively few customers in Europe. At present, there is no specific plan to continue the evaluation.

CTOnews.com learned that under the European Chip Act, the European Commission has allocated a total of 15 billion euros (about 111.3 billion yuan) for public and private semiconductor projects, hoping to double the European chip market share by 2030.

At present, TSMC has set up plants in the United States and Japan, among which the Arizona plant in the United States has not only upgraded its process technology from 5 nanometers to 4 nanometers, but will also expand its investment of 3 nanometers and expand its production capacity to 50,000 tablets per month.

In addition, TSMC has sent engineers to support it to meet the needs of factories in the United States and Japan. Some people in the industry say that if TSMC invests and sets up factories in Germany in the future, it may be even more tight in terms of manpower, and the operating pressure will also be further increased.
