CTOnews.com, December 24, Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) announced on Friday that the new H3 rocket is scheduled to make its maiden flight at the seed Island Space Center on February 12, 2023, with a launch window of 0937 UTC.

The rocket will then carry a new Earth observation satellite Earth III, which will be used for disaster management.

According to reports, this is the successor to the H2A rocket that JAXA and Mitsubishi heavy Industries have been jointly developing since 2014, and the project has cost more than 1.5 billion US dollars. The payload of the rocket is about 30% larger than that of H2A, and the launch cost is about half of it.

The H3 rocket, which is 63 meters high and weighs 574 tons, uses a solid booster and a liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen engine in the first and second stages. The design goal is to increase the carrying capacity and reduce the launch cost relative to the Hmura 2A. It is the main rocket of Japan in the future.

CTOnews.com learned that the development of the H3 rocket has entered the final stage. Engine combustion tests were carried out at the launch pad of the Space Center in November without any problems.

In addition, the H3 rocket will also be used in NASA's Artemis project, which aims to put a man on the moon.
