The flagship SSD of Samsung's new 990 PRO PCIe 4.0 is rumored to be the 9C1. CTOnews.com reported that Samsung announced the new PM9C1a SSD at the Tech Day 2022 conference in October. Samsung said at the time that it was a new DRAM-free solid-state drive that supports both PCIe 4.0 and 5.0. In addition, Samsung has not released other details yet.

Samsung pointed out at the Tech Day 2022 event that its ninth generation of V-NAND is under development and plans for mass production in 2024. By 2030, Samsung envisions more than 1000 layers of NAND stacked to better support future data-intensive technologies.
